How Can I Help?
The easiest way to help is to donate! It costs $25,000 to train a PTSD service dog and takes thousands of hours of training. Donations help us cover the operational and training costs. In return, we are able to provide dogs to those in need at no cost. We are a 501(c)3 charitable corporation and all donations are tax deductible.
What is the difference between service dogs and therapy dogs?
A service dog is specifically trained to aid veterans and others who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Therapy dogs are used to comfort people at places such as hospitals, nursing homes, behavioral health centers, doctors’ offices and more. At Got Your Six, we are able to train both service dogs and therapy dogs.
How can I get a service dog?
If you’re a veteran or first responder who suffers with PTSD and are interested in a support dog, contact us. We will discuss the details and guide you through the application process. We recommend you act quickly, as we are currently accepting applications for the year 2023. There is a significant need for service dogs and the training process is lengthy, thus applications must be submitted well in advance.
Do you sell any merchandise?
Of course! We have a full online store of apparel and gift options. A portion of the proceeds comes back to support the training and placement process. We would love to see you rocking our Got Your Six Support Dogs apparel.
Do you accept donations of goods?
Absolutely! Check out the list of items we accept here. The dogs are constantly in need of additional supplies and the trainers need a number of items to ensure the dogs are trained and ready to handle any situation that comes their way. Do you have a large donation or need help getting something to us? Give us a call and we will come pick up your donation. We can even bring one of the dogs with us if you like!
Can I volunteer with Got Your Six Service Dogs?
Yes! However, it’s probably not in the way you were hoping for. Because of the intricacy and training required to work with service dogs, we leave that to the professionals. We do, though, need assistance in marketing, social media, corporate donations, donor relations, grant research and grant writing among others. Ready to volunteer? Let us know here.
